The Central boys track and field team endured another cancelled meet last week, before getting a chance to hit the track on April 28, at the Clayton Ridge Eagles Boys Meet. Despite a sixth place finish, the Warriors scored 64 total points, a season high to this point. Evan Schroeder led the team with 14.5, followed by William Moser with 10.75, Gavin Holst with 9.25 and Sean Wilwert at 7.75.

The Warriors found success in a variety of races, starting with the 100 meter dash, where Logan Sharpe finished seventh with a time of 12.90. Sharpe returned in the 200, where he came in 11th, but teammate Schroeder ran a 24.58 to cross the line fourth.

In the 400, Jack Scherf and Vaughn Zittergruen missed out on points by less than a second as they finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

The 800 meter run produced two top-10 finishers in Gavin Holst, who came in 6th, while Corey Weber placed ninth. Holst was also sixth in the 1600, and Maddux Eglseder finished 10th.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Wilwert grabbed a fifth place finish, and in the 400 hurdles, Moser capped off a run solid run to place third. Brayden Finley crossed the line 11th in that event.

The relays were fruitful for the Warriors as well, starting with fifth place in the 4x200 thanks to Sharpe, Finley, Dan McGreal and Wilwert, who were about a second out of fourth place. The team of Weber, Holst, Scherf and Moser brought home fourth place in the 4x400, and added another fourth place mark in the 440 meter shuttle hurdle event, finishing less than two seconds behind the winners.

The 800 sprint medley relay had Wilwert, Weber, Evan Schroeder and Moser finish third, and the 1600 distance medley was a close second with Evan Schroeder, Moser, Weber and Holst missing out on first by a little over a second.

The field events were also successful for the Warriors, as they finished in the top 10 in both the discus and shot put. In the discus, Sam Fettkether earned sixth with a mark of 101-08.50, while Ryan Schroeder took seventh at 100-04. Evan Schroeder out-dueled Ryan to finish third in the shot put with a distance of 40-07.00. Ryan placed seventh with a throw of 36-07.50.

Central’s next meet is May 2 at MFL MarMac, followed by the Upper Iowa Conference meet at Postville on May 5.
