Kathleen Carole Wahls was born to Fredrick and Emily Jane Ligate on Dec. 7, 1925. Kathleen always was known by the name Carole. She was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. At the age of 14, Carole was reached and saved while attending a Bible conference at Duluth, Minn. Carole later met Dale Wahls, the man she would marry on Dec. 23, 1948. To the union three children were born, Ronald Dale Wahls, Kathleen Emily Schultz, and Wendy Elizabeth Kuhse.

For many years Carole and Dale and the family farmed in rural Garnavillo. In the late 1960’s they bought and ran the Garnavillo Hardware store. After Dale passed away in 1999, Carole continued to operate the store for a year before selling it. Later she worked as a snack cart worker at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Carole enjoyed doing things for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved reading, knitting, and baking cookies and homemade sweet rolls.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her brother, Ken, and sister, Dorothy, who died at birth.
