An 86-63 win over North Fayette Valley on Feb. 8 improved the MFL MarMac boys basketball team to 15-1 in the Upper Iowa Conference standings and also clinched the league title.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 23-12 lead through the first quarter, but went cold in the second, as a 19-9 TigerHawk run closed the gap to 32-31. The MFL MarMac offense bounced back down the stretch, though, carrying a 56-46 advantage into the fourth period before out-scoring NFV 30-17 in the final frame.

The Bulldogs shot over 57 percent from the field, a necessary mark considering the 50 percent clip from the TigerHawks. They also hit an astounding 13 three pointers on 27 attempts, while NFV made just one.

Zach Driscoll accounted for much of the damage, draining seven shots from behind the arc for 21 of his 28 points. The freshman’s stat line included four steals, four rebounds and two assists as well. Wyatt Powell was 7-11 overall and 2-3 on three balls, racking up 18 points and six rebounds along with a team-high eight assists and six steals. Kaden Stocker hit four three pointers of his own, for 12 points, and had two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Parker Kuehl tallied 10 points off the bench, in addition to three steals, two assists and two rebounds, while Cullen McShane contributed eight points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal.

The Bulldogs, who are 17-4 overall, will now focus their attention on the postseason. A TigerHawk win over Postville in Class 2A first round action Monday night would set NFV (12-9) and MFL MarMac up for a re-match in Monona on Thursday, Feb. 17. The second round game will start at 7 p.m.
