Chuck “Charlie” Everts, 90, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Crossing Rivers Health, with his family by his side.
Chuck was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to John and Angie (Gallagher) Everts. Chuck had a memorable childhood, picking berries, hunting, and fishing. He was “caught” by the girl of his dreams Rose Marie Miller, and they were united in marriage on Oct. 26, 1949. To this union, two daughters were born, Sherry and JoAnn. Chuck had a full life, as he told everyone often. He and Rose loved to travel, going every chance they got. Packing up and going on fishing trips all over and enjoying time on the river with friends and family. They also loved going to area casinos but especially loved Biloxi, Miss. Chuck was always an avid outdoorsman, spending countless hours in the woods and on the water. He was known locally for his fishing expertise, whether it be in the boat or on the ice. Chuck worked for FMC corporation in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 38 years, retiring in 1984. Chuck and Rose moved permanently to Prairie du Chien in 1999, where Chuck fished as many hours as he could. After Rose passed March 16, 2017, he enjoyed spending time with his family, relishing in the fact he was the head of five generations.
He is survived by his children, Sherry (Steve) Slife and JoAnn Evans (Blair Dillman); grandchildren, Jeff Slife, Jenny (Keith) Coleman and Jodi Evans; great-grandchildren, Stephen (Keasha) Evans, Miranda Rose Slife (Jayce), Drake (Brooke Engelheart) Coleman, Dylan (Jayde Schubert) Coleman, Sammy and Maddison Rose Achman and Charlie Evans; great-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Finn Evans; and a cousin, Johnny Gallagher, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Angie Everts; his wife, Rose; his grandson, David Evans; brothers, James and William; and sister, Eileen Stotz.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Jan 22, at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at The Dousman House in Prairie du Chien. The family strongly but respectfully requests no flowers. Memorials can be sent to Sherry Slife at 33166 Larry Ln., Lot 27, Prairie du Chien, and will be forwarded to the Local Learn to Fish Program. Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
