The Central boys basketball team lost another close game last week, with the 42-39 final versus West Central dropping their season record to 1-11.

The Warriors controlled the game in the first half, out-scoring the Blue Devils 28-26, but struggled to score after halftime. The team finished with just 11 points in the entire second half and shot 33.3 percent from the field for the whole game.

While the Warriors did shoot 38.1 percent on three-point attempts, making eight of 21, which kept them in the game, the Blue Devils took nine more shots overall and scored at a higher percentage.

The Warriors were also again undone by turnovers, which have plagued the team since the start of the season. In this game, they committed 20 overall and allowed 14 steals.

Dan McGreal continues to lead Central in offensives production. The reliable shooter scored 21 points on 50 percent shooting, including a 57.1 percent clip on threes, and went 3-3 from the free throw line. McGreal also had four rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks.

Seth Bena turned in a solid performance as well, scoring seven points, with seven rebounds, two assists and one block. Three players, Corey Weber, Caden Erickson and Tate Berns, all finished with three points each and combined for six rebounds, three assists and five steals.

The Warriors will look to improve with a three-game schedule this week. They traveled to Waterloo Christian (4-8) on Jan. 17, then were home versus Clayton Ridge (7-5) on Jan. 18. They will close out the week at North Fayette Valley (5-5) on Jan. 21.
