Clarence 'Smokey' Mezera
Clarence G. “Smokey” Mezera, 85, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.
He was born Dec. 4, 1936, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Martin and Helen (Cejka) Mezera. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and worked as a meat cutter for Swenson’s IGA for many years. He married Janice Buege, who later preceded him in death. He married Marcella Hurda, who also preceded him in death. He then married Linda Taylor. Smokey enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Green Bay Packer and professional wrestling fan.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his sons, Jeffrey (Janet) and Paul (Lisa); his sisters, Catherine (Edward) Rauch, Patricia (Elmer) Valley, Clara Powers and Helen (Doug) Jelinek; his brothers; Ronald (Gale) Mezera and Raymond (Carol) Mezera, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; his sisters, Theresa (Frank) Langkamp and Florence (Ivan) Finney; his brothers, Edward, Frank and Andy Mezera; a brother-in-law Terry Powers; along with a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be Friday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating, with interment in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
