The MFL MarMac boys basketball team cruised to an 80-33 win over Central Dec. 21. It was the Bulldogs’ fourth straight victory and improved them to 6-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Upper Iowa Conference.

MFL MarMac jumped ahead 14-0 just three minutes into the game, and although the Warriors closed the gap to 16-10 by the end of the first quarter, it was the closest they got. The Bulldogs led 35-21 by halftime, then used a 28-11 run to open up a 63-32 advantage by the end of the third quarter. MFL MarMac held Central to just one point in the final period, easily winning by 47 points.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Warriors 42.7 percent versus 33.3 percent from the field and made seven three pointers to Central’s four.

MFL MarMac also nearly doubled Central’s rebound total, 44-24, with 21 of those coming on the offensive end of the floor. Central, conversely, had just five offensive rebounds.

The Warriors were also bit by the turnover bug, relinquishing the ball 25 times. The Bulldogs snagged 18 steals and coughed the ball up only six times.

Freshman Zach Driscoll had another 30-point game for MFL MarMac, and hit three of the team’s seven shots from behind the arc. He also picked up seven rebounds, five steals and two assists. Fellow freshman Parker Kuehl made five of his seven shot attempts, adding to a 12-point total, and tallied two steals and an assist. Sophomore Carver Blietz-Bentien was a point shy of a double-double, with nine points and 10 rebounds, and also notched a team leading six assists along with two steals. Sophomore Wyatt Powell finished the night with seven points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds, while senior Kaden Stocker added six points, four rebounds and a steal.

The Bulldogs will look to extend their winning streak next week, heading to Clayton Ridge (5-3) on Jan. 4, then hosting North Fayette Valley (3-3) on Jan. 7. The team will play Crestwood (3-5) in a game at Upper Iowa University on Jan. 8.
