The MFL MarMac boys basketball team continued to roll last week, scoring runaway victories over Kee and Postville. The wins kept the Bulldogs a perfect 4-0 in the Upper Iowa Conference and 5-1 overall.

The Hawks entered the Dec. 14 match-up at MFL MarMac without a loss, but struggled to keep pace with the Bulldogs, who opened up a 21-14 lead in the first quarter—an advantage they upped to 49-31 by halftime. MFL MarMac continued to pour on the points in the second half, easily winning 92-63.

The Bulldogs shot 52.5 percent from the field, compared to just 38.2 percent from the Hawks. They were especially lethal from downtown, hitting 16 of 33 attempts from three-point range. MFL MarMac also out-rebounded Kee 38-29 and snagged nine steals while the Hawks managed just one.

Freshman Zach Driscoll dropped an impressive 26 points—18 of which were from behind the arc—and had five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Senior Kaden Stocker was just as hot from three-point range, sinking six of 10 attempts, which added to his 22-point total for the night. He also led the team with six rebounds. Sophomore Wyatt Powell finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists, while freshman Parker Kuehl added 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal to his stat line. Senior Cullen McShane chipped in seven points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.

MFL MarMac’s Dec. 17 game against win-less Postville was just as lopsided. The Bulldogs went ahead 26-10 after only the first quarter and continued to add on in the second, leading 44-22 at halftime. They pushed the advantage to 30 points in the third period, eventually winning 78-37.

Although the team landed fewer three pointers in this game, the Bulldogs continued to shoot a strong 44.6 percent from the field. They also played solid defense, grabbing 24 steals and blocking two shots, in addition to bringing down 19 rebounds on that end of the court.

Powell was MFL MarMac’s leading scorer, with 15 points, and also snagged a team-high eight steals along with three rebounds and two assists. Stocker stayed hot from behind the arc, making three of five shots. He totaled 11 points as well as four rebounds, two steals and a block. Fellow senior Chauncy Drahn also had 11 points to go with three rebounds and two steals.

Additionally, Driscoll notched 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, while sophomore Carver Blietz-Bentien finished the game with 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist. McShane was just shy of double digits, with nine points, and had three rebounds, three steals and an assist.

The Bulldogs will seek their fourth straight win on Dec. 21, at Central (1-6). It will be the team’s final game until the new year.
