The MFL MarMac volleyball team closed out its season Oct. 20, with a 3-0 loss at Starmont in the Class 2A - Region 6 Quarterfinal.

The Bulldogs came into the game riding a four-game winning streak, but couldn’t sustain that momentum against the Stars, who cranked out a 25-15, 25-10 and 25-9 straight set victory.

Starmont took nearly twice as many kill attempts as MFL MarMac, and made 39 compared to the Bulldogs’ 11. Senior Riley Moreland had six of those, followed by two apiece for Karli Tilson and Brooke Gillitzer and one for Hailee Corlett. Lakota Morrissey led MFL MarMac with five assists, while Moreland added three and Miranda Lang two.

The Bulldog defense dug 17 balls, including four from Ashley Shaw and three each from Moreland and Lang. Gillitzer and Savannah Schaller each recorded a block assist.

Another key difference in the game came at the serving line, where the Bulldogs made just 50 percent of their attempts and had no aces. The Stars, meanwhile, boasted a 97.3 percent efficiency and hit eight aces. Kadence Pape was 4-5 for the Bulldogs, while Moreland completed four of her eight attempts. Morrissey was 2-4 on the night.

The loss dropped MFL MarMac’s overall record to 14-12. The team finished 6-2 in the Upper Iowa Conference.
