Lieselotte G. “Lu” Patnode, 94, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Crossing Rivers Health. 

She was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Mannheim, Germany, the daughter of Daniel and Gertrud (Passler) Kaufmann. She married Donald Kenneth Patnode in Manheim, Germany, on April 11, 1947. 

She followed Don to Prairie du Chien for his position at Campion Jesuit High School as the head of the ROTC program. Together, they raised their family in the Prairie du Chien area. She worked as a clerk at Himrich’s and Rexall Drug Store for 22 years until retirement. Lu was exceptionally smart with an extremely diverse knowledge of both Europe and the United States. She proudly respected and educated herself and would represent all avenues in her life in the most classy and dignified way. She carried herself in a manner not only as a woman of beauty on the outside, always put together, but also, that beauty radiated through her dear personality! She saw incredible things throughout her life, which prepared her and conditioned her to be a secure, strong, independent, and confident woman throughout her life! A true inspiration to many who knew her. 

She is survived by her son, Donald (Ann Marie); her sister, Helga (Dieter) Butz; her grandchildren, Shannon (Angel) Zimmerman, Jennifer (Chris) Berry, Jaime Krueger, Tanya Patnode, Grace (Nikolai) Miskov, Frank, Nicholas, Joseph, and Isabella; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous great great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Patnode; her parents; and her daughters, Julia, Patricia Ann, and Barbara Louise Patnode.

Funeral services will be according to CDC guidelines on Wednesday, Sept 15, at 1 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Andy Doll officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The family requests that attendees utilize masks and practice social distancing.
