Russ Belden, 80, of Clayton Center, died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, with his wife and family by his side. Per Russ’s request, there will be no services.

Russ was born to Carmi and Pearl (Hansel) Belden in 1940 at the family farm near Volga. He was united in marriage with Pat Schultz. They were blessed with three children. Russ loved his family dearly and would help them out with whatever they needed.

Spending time with his family was important to him. He looked forward to the annual 4th of July party, when his family would come to their Clayton Center home for a picnic and fireworks. His grandkids loved being able to sit down and play a game of Euchre with grandpa. Ask any of them about the bids he would make. The thing is he would usually make them! He was very proud of all of his grandchildren. His whole family meant the world to him. His grandchildren enjoyed listening to his stories while he drank a cold beer. He liked watching westerns and politics on TV. When he was younger, he enjoyed pulling in tractor pulls and playing pool.

Left to cherish his life are his wife of 59 years, Pat; daughter, Barb (Gary) Westhoff; son, Jay (Sharon) Belden; daughter, Betty (Jeff Harbaugh) Belden; grandchildren, Jeffrey Harbaugh, Jr., Matt (Mindy) Westhoff, Shawn (Erica) Harbaugh, Dan (Sarah) Westhoff and Holly (Cordel) Belden-Bries; great-grandchildren, Rashell, Anna, Lily, Cole, Evelyn, Amber, Brooklyn, Myles and Mark and two on the way; his sisters, Shirley Gifford and Max McAllen; sister-in-law, Sheila Belden; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Wes Vanderide; and many nieces and nephews.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Wayne and Glen; sister, Jean; grandchildren, Shari Harbaugh in 2014 and Nick Westhoff in 2018; and in-laws, Wilbur and Ida Mae Schultz.

There will be a private family burial later at the Clayton Center Cemetery.
