The MFL MarMac volleyball team dropped its season opener, 3-0, at Cascade on Aug. 24. The Bulldogs struggled to get on track in the first set, falling 25-7, before narrowly losing the second 25-23. Cascade took set three by a score of 25-16.

The Cougars were busy at the net, completing 28 kills, while the Bulldogs managed only nine. Riley Moreland was the MFL MarMac leader, with five, while Karli Tilson, Hailee Corlett, Miranda Lang and Grace Anderson each had one kill.

Lakota Morrissey tallied five of MFL MarMac’s nine assists. Moreland added two and Lang and Tilson had one apiece.

Defensively, the Bulldogs dug 32 balls—nine of which were by Lang. Moreland picked up six, while Morrissey, Kaitlin Picha and Kadence Pape all had five.

At the net, Anderson led MFL MarMac with two blocks, and Tilson had one.

In addition to a strong attack, Cascade also benefitted from a successful serving night, hitting 90.1 percent of attempts, including 11 aces. The Bulldogs’ percentage was at just 78.3 percent. Pape was the team’s top server, going 12-13 with an ace. Picha was 7-8 and Brooke Gillitzer 5-6. Lang had a 5-9 night and smacked two aces.

MFL MarMac will look to get back on track this week, hosting New Hampton and Turkey Valley for an Aug. 31 triangular.
