The Blake’s Prairie Jr. Fair in Bloomington is July 23-25. Held once again at the Bloomington Fairgrounds, this will be the 153rd annual celebration. Events for the whole family will take place. There is an admission fee, though children 6 and under are free.

Grandstand events include the Friday demolition derby, beginning at 7:30 p.m. A fireworks display will follow that night. Saturday will be a horse pull at 5 p.m. Sunday’s big event will be a local truck and tractor pull, including a Too Hot To Farm class.

Certainly, the junior fair is all about animals and kids and the youth showing their animals.

For that portion of the fair, Friday will kick off with market animal weigh-ins from 9 to 11 a.m. Cloverbud judging will be from 3 to 6 p.m. The sheep and swine show will start at 6 p.m., followed by the poultry show.

Saturday, at 9 a.m., the day will begin with dairy and beef shows, in addition to exhibits. At 10 a.m. will be the goat show, then the rabbit show will be at 11 a.m. The popular meat animal auction will be held at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, the horse and pony show will get things going again at 9 a.m. A cat show will be at 9:30. From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the River Ridge FFA will serve up chicken barbecue dinners. Another fun event will be the kids’ tractor pull at 2 p.m., and a pie contest, open to all.

Free inflatables will be on the grounds all weekend. For more information, visit blakesprairiefair.org.
