McGregor Fire Chief Tom Sauer said the fire appears to have started because a resident had too many cords plugged in to an electrical outlet. Here, firefighter Joe Muehlbauer sprays down a couch that was removed from the building.

No one was injured, but all the residents are currently displaced, following a July 2 fire at a McGregor apartment building.

McGregor Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 responded to the fire at the corner of Kinney and Center streets around 2 p.m., and the Monona Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid. McGregor Fire Chief Tom Sauer said the fire appears to have started because a resident had too many cords plugged in to an electrical outlet. The fire was contained to one room of one apartment, but there is smoke damage throughout the building.

"The building was saved due to the expert response by the firefighters," Sauer said.

He added that the Red Cross was on scene to assist the families.
