Victoria A. Merritt
Victoria Ann Merritt, 62, of Strawberry Point, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 24, 2021, at her residence, surrounded by family, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born Oct. 30, 1958, to Gene Edward and Janice Joan (Zapf) West in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Vickie was a 1977 graduate of Central Community High School and attended Hamilton Business College for accounting. Through the years, she worked for H&R Block and the offices of the Wayne County Hospital and L&M Tire.
Vickie was the proud mother of five sons: Michael, Levi, Quinten, Clayton and Luke, and the grandmother of nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to caring for and keeping up with a large family, Vickie enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends at the cabin. Vickie was well known for being a good cook and had many highly sought after dishes such as her potato salad, goulash and chili. Vickie was never a complainer and always kept a positive attitude, which made her a joy to be around, and she will be truly missed by all. Vickie was confirmed and a longtime member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport.
Vickie was preceded in death by her son, Michael Nading; her infant grandson, William Nading; mother, Janice West; and sister, Tammy West.
She is survived by her father, Gene West, of Strawberry Point; sons, Levi (Meghan) Merritt of Osceola, Quinten (Erin) Merritt, Clayton Merritt and Luke Merritt, all of Seymour; siblings, Ed (Lianne) West of Mankato, Tim (Debbie) West of Strawberry Point, Tina West of Monona and Terry (Janet) West of Auburndale, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Mary Ann, Zeb, Zach, Karsyn, Karleigh, John, Macy and Lincoln; one great-grandchild, Deni; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside service was on Monday, June 28, at Union Cemetery, Littleport. Immediately following the graveside service, a celebration of life and luncheon were held at Tim and Deb’s cabin.
