Drake Jensen recently gave some TLC to his 2014 Eagle Scout project, an interpretive sign on the McGregor riverfront. (Submitted photo)

It’s been seven years since Drake Jensen completed his Eagle Scout project: an interpretive sign on the McGregor riverfront that, entitled “McGregor at the Crossroads,” provides a timeline of the community’s important role as an economic, cultural and social hub of the area.
Mother Nature hasn’t been kind to the sign, however, hitting it with damaging UV rays and flooding.
“In 2019, it was under water for quite awhile,” said Jensen.
That’s why, this year, he decided to replace it.
“I wanted to make sure it was being kept up and maintained. That was important,” said Jensen.
Work included pulling the sign off its stand, cleaning the stand and ordering a new sign face along with a protective covering.
“Hopefully that will lengthen the longevity of the sign,” he remarked.
Jensen currently lives in Iowa City, where he works as a cardiac nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and hopes to become a nurse practitioner. He remains appreciative of the community members who helped with the Eagle Scout project in 2014, especially the McGregor Historical Museum, and said McGregor will always hold a special place in his heart.
“I’m fond of everyone there, and I take pride in the community and the project, even though it’s been a few years since I completed it,” he shared. “It’s a draw to keep coming back.”
