Last week was a tough one for the MFL MarMac softball team, which lost all six of its games and received news that star pitcher Lauren Haberichter will be out for at least two weeks due to an injury.

The Bulldogs started the week June 15, losing 13-1 at Alburnett. The Pirates jumped on MFL MarMac pitching with four runs in the first inning and eight in the second, followed by a single run in the third inning.

Mackenzy Ruff took the loss, surrendering 13 runs on 13 hits, although only five of those runs were earned

The Bulldogs managed just one hit in the game, a triple from Ruff, who drove in Savannah Schaller.

MFL MarMac was back in action June 16, dropping both games of a doubleheader to visiting Clayton Ridge.

The Eagles took game one 12-1, doing most of their damage with a six-run fifth inning. They had 10 hits off Bulldog pitching, including a homerun, and walked five times.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, were held to just three hits. Two came from Abby Koslowski, who doubled twice and drove in the lone run. Kaitlin Picha walked and scored, while Lauren Kishman was 1-3.

Clayton Ridge continued the offensive onslaught in game two, amassing 13 hits and 10 steals. The Eagles scored in every inning, including a four-run dagger in the seventh that made it 14-5.

Despite only two hits, the MFL MarMac offense had productive first and sixth innings, with two runs in each, and scored the other run in the third. Kishman doubled, walked twice and stole a base, while also driving in a run and scoring two times. Ruff picked up an RBI and Ashley Shaw scored twice.

The Bulldogs hosted Waukon on June 18, narrowly losing 4-1. Ruff had one of her strongest outings of the season, allowing eight hits, two walks and four runs—only three of which were earned—over seven innings. She also tallied seven strikeouts.

MFL MarMac eked out just two hits against the Indians. Ashley Shaw had one of those hits, as well as a walk, and scored the team’s only run in the first inning. Koslowski had the other hit.

The week wrapped up June 19, in a tournament at Midland. The Bulldogs narrowly lost their first game, 5-4, to the host team. They led 2-1 through four innings, when Midland pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 5-2 lead. MFL MarMac scored twice in the top of the sixth, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

It was even tougher for the Bulldogs in game two, which was also against Midland. The Eagles had a four-run first inning and erupted for five scores in the second, then tacked on two runs each in the third and fourth innings, en route to a 13-3 victory. MFL MarMac scored all three of its runs in the second inning.

The losses dropped the Bulldogs’ overall record to 3-20. The team is 3-6 in the Upper Iowa Conference. This week will be another busy one, starting with a doubleheader at Central on June 21, followed by a home doubleheader against Turkey Valley on June 23. MFL MarMac will head to Central City on June 25, then play in a tournament at Dunkerton on June 26.
