Sit back and relax and sample a variety of regional wines and beers at the Lazy River Beer and Wine Festival, held Saturday, June 26, from 2 to 6 p.m., on the Marquette riverfront.
The annual event, which serves as a fundraiser for the McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce, will feature 11 wineries and breweries this year. Participating wineries include Marquette’s own Eagles Landing Winery as well as Jennings Winery from Strawberry Point, Winneshiek Wildberry Winery from Decorah, Empty Nest Winery from Waukon and Stone Cliff Winery from Dubuque.
McGregor’s own Old Man River Restaurant and Brewery, along with Cedar Rapids-based Iowa Brewing Company, Backpocket Brewing from Coralville, PIVO Brewery from Calmar, Decorah-based Toppling Goliath Brewing Co., and Potosi Brewery from Wisconsin, will sample out their beers.
As in the past, bottles of wine can be purchased directly from the wineries, but new this year is a beer tent, allowing attendees to purchase cans of their favorite beers.
“Every brewery that’s here will have at least one kind of beer available, and Old Man River’s beers can also be enjoyed at the restaurant and brewery in McGregor,” said McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jessica Goltz. “We’ll even have some beer from Laketime Brewery, even though they were unable to attend this year.”
In addition to the wine and beer, Lazy River attendees can try unique foods from By the Spoonful, Spring Lake Inn and Kymar Acres’ Kymar Cafe.
The Prairie du Chien-based band The Dirty Shirts will provide musical entertainment throughout the event, and Jeff Mueller will offer horse-drawn carriage rides.
Although there will be covered seating available, attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to spread out and relax on the riverfront.
To purchase tickets to the Lazy River Beer and Wine Festival, visit www.mcgreg-marq.org, call the McGregor-Marquette Chamber office at (563) 873-2186 or stop by the office in downtown McGregor. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate.
