The Blackhawk boys golf season disappointedly came to an end at the Prairie du Chien Sectional on Tuesday for James Reilly when he missed going on to State by one stroke. James was the only Hawk player that had moved on from Regionals last week but just couldn’t find his A game on the Prairie du Chien Country Club course, shooting an 84. James had early struggles on the front nine but as hard as he tried he just couldn’t overcome them on the back to reach his goal of playing in the State Tournament. James ended up tied for 10th place in the Sectional from the 72-player field.

Reilly had an impressive year in his first SWC competitive season, gaining First team All Conference recognition. He finished second in the conference with a 38.5 scoring average per nine holes. James also won Medalist honors at the Regional tournament with a 73. Although he was disappointed with his Sectional performance, Coach Rick Peterson and the team are confident that he will learn from his experience and continue to improve his golf game both mentally and physically. That was demonstrated shortly after the sectional ended when he went back out to play in the evening to process what had happened earlier in the day. His success to date will also serve to motivate and inspire the 2022 Blackhawk golfers to improve so the entire team can acknowledge the Sectionals experience.

The two teams moving to State from the Prairie du Chien Sectional were Edgewood Sacred Heart of Madison with a team score of 314 and Edgerton with a 335. The three individuals moving on to State were Tyler Bradley from Dodgeville with an 80 and the fourth best score posted. The other two individuals were Gabriel Fernandez (St. John's NW Military) with an 83 and Peter Gustafson (Monticello/Belleville) 83.
