A 34-year-old Prairie du Chien man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of possession of meth, one count of possession of an illegally obtained prescription, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kyle Vanderbilt faces up to $11,000 in fines and four years and one month in prison if convicted of all three counts.

According to the criminal complaint, a Prairie du Chien police officer attempted to conduct a welfare check on Vanderbilt and found him slumped over the steering wheel of a parked vehicle. Vanderbilt was very slow to respond to the officer’s attempts to rouse him, and when he did become alert, he showed blatant signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance, the complaint said.

Vanderbilt allowed the officer to reach into his pockets, and the officer found a small black cardboard box concealing two small plastic baggies that later tested positive for meth. Also found was a red plastic straw that appeared to have been fashioned to ingest meth.

A search of the vehicle uncovered several used syringes as well as a prescription pill bottle. The label on the bottle showed that the contents, Baclofen, had been initially prescribed to Vanderbilt. However, the bottle also contained not only Baclofen tablets, it also contained Cyclobenzaprine tablets, which are available by prescription only and are typically used as muscle relaxants, according to the complaint.
