The MFL MarMac softball team is still searching for its first win, following two opening week losses to New Hampton and Crestwood.

The Bulldogs kicked off the season May 25, falling to New Hampton 10-4. The Chickasaws struck early, pushing across three runs in the first inning. MFL MarMac responded with two in the bottom of the frame, before New Hampton added another in the second inning. They made it 7-2 in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Chickasaws tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to seal the victory.

New Hampton racked up 11 hits and walked twice against MFL MarMac pitching. The Chickasaws also took advantage of four Bulldog errors and stole 15 bases.

The Bulldogs had five hits of their own, including two from sophomore Lauren Kishman, who doubled twice and drove in two runs. Kaitlin Picha and Abby Schellhorn both went 1-2, walked twice and scored two runs. Abby Koslowski singled and picked up an RBI.

Things got even tougher for MFL MarMac on May 26, in a 10-0 home loss to Crestwood. The Bulldogs were held to just one hit—a single by Picha—and struck out 10 times. Kishman and Mackenzy Ruff each drew a walk.

The Cadets, meanwhile, tallied 13 hits. They did much of their damage in the fifth inning, scoring six runs, and also brought home three in the sixth inning.

MFL MarMac will work to get back on track this week, facing Decorah on May 31, then playing a double header at North Fayette Valley on June 2. The Bulldogs will host Hudson on June 3, before heading to a tournament at NFV on June 4 and 5.
