The Blackhawk golf team traveled to the House on the Rock Resort and Golf Course (aka: The Springs) designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. on May 4. This was their second visit in the last four days. River Valley hosted an 18-hole invitational on Saturday, May 1 with 16 teams participating.

Although the strong winds were still a factor, the warm weather offset that and was finally conducive to playing golf. All of the Blackhawks were playing The Springs course for their first time.

James Reilly led the Blackhawks in scoring with an 86 and ended up with the seventh best score among all individuals. Quintin Scott followed that up with a 99, while Logan Higgins contributed a 126, and Logan Shedivy a 127 for a team score of 431.

The Hawks went back to the Springs on Tuesday, May 4 for their nine-hole SWC match. The players made good use of the lessons learned on May 1 as they showed improvement in many phases of their game.

James Reilly earned medalist honors with a one over par 37. James carded four pars, three bogeys, and two birdies to shoot his best round of the year. Logan Higgins shot a personal best for the year by playing consistent golf to shoot a 58. Jackson DeBruin also shot a 58 by staying positive and focused as he went through the front nine. Logan Shedivy carded a 69 staying positive and confident after having problems with water. Khai Warrington added a 76 and remained positive throughout his round.

The Blackhawks’ 222 team score was the best score of the year to date but all are confident that it will only get better as the team moves through the season. The motivation to get better was shown right after the match when they all went to the practice green to chip and putt while final scores were being completed.
