The Central boys track and field team started last week with an 11th place finish at the Wildcat Invitational. The Warriors scored 10 points, four of which were from James Eberhardt.

Eberhardt was fourth in the discus with a throw of 127 feet and added a 12th place finish in the shot put with a distance of 36 feet, 10.25 inches. Teammate Joel Thiese finished 18th in the discus, while Ryan Schroeder was 18th in the shot put.

In the sprint events, Corey Weber placed 13th in the 100 meter dash and Sabastian Florek came in 16th. Lane Orr crossed the finish line in 19th place, with a time of 27.67, in the 200. Sam Fettkether finished close behind Orr in 20th. The 400 meter dash included an 18th place finish from Hunter Grimm, who ran a time of 1:09.69.

Brayden Finley added a seventh place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, running the race in 1:03.36, just missing out on points by .34 seconds.

In the relays, the top Warrior team was the 4x100 group of Elliot Kelly, Sean Wilwert, Orr and Weber, who finished 11th with a time of 50.10. The 4x200 meter relay saw the team of Kelly, Wilwert, Finley and Weber cross the line in eighth place, running the race in 1:45.57. The Warriors provided their best finish of the day in the 440 meter shuttle hurdle event, where they finished third, running a time of 1:14.47.

Things were decidedly different for the Warriors at the Clayton Ridge Eagles Boys Meet on April 29, where they finished seventh with 47 points. The leading point scorers were Finley with 18.5 and Eberhardt with 13.

The Warriors had two runners finish in the top 10 in the 100, with Weber placing seventh and Florek hitting the line in 10th. In the 200, Wilwert just missed the top 10 by .20 seconds, finishing  11th with a time of 26.30, while Florek crossed the line in 16th.

Finley provided eight points for the team with a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. He added another eight points with a second place mark in the 400 meter hurdles, running the race in 1:05.01.

In the relays, the Warriors were fifth in the 4x100, as the team of Kelly, Schroeder, Orr and Weber ran the race in 50.60, earning four points for the team total. In the 4x200, the group of Kelly, Orr, Dan McGreal and Weber crossed the line in 1:49.96, which added three more points to the total team standing. But it was in the 400 meter shuttle hurdle event where the Warriors pushed through, bringing home a first place finish and 10 points.

During the field events, Eberhardt again led the way, placing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 37-00.50, which was good enough for five points. He topped that with a second place finish in the discus with a distance of 121-04, which added another eight points to the team total. Sam Fettkether finished 12th in the discus, while fellow Warrior Thiese came in 10th in the shot put.

“We had two good meets this week. We were competitive in many events and improved on many personal bests. The highlights of the Wildcats Invite on Monday were James Eberhardt having a season best throw of 127 feet and placing fourth, and the shuttle hurdle relay team running a season best time and placing third. The Wildcat Invitational is a very competitive meet, and it was exciting to see guys perform their best against tough competition,” said head coach Tom Wilwert. “We continued to make strides at the Clayton Ridge Eagle Meet. Brayden Finley had a great day, earning three medals in the hurdle events, including silver medals in the 110 high hurdles and the 400 low hurdles, and a gold medal as part of our shuttle hurdle relay team.”
