The city of Monona will again provide port-a-potties and allow the use of picnic tables, barricades for the streets and tractor pull, and police presence and volunteers for this year’s Monona Hay Days celebration, which will be held Saturday, June 12.

Hay Days committee chair Teresa Graham, along with Monona Chamber and Economic Development, Inc., Executive Director Rogeta Halvorson, made the request at the city council’s April 19 meeting.

Graham also asked the city to provide a one-day event insurance policy for the tractor pull. The council approved purchasing one-day event insurance from Western World that covers spectators, small medical limit and volunteers, at a cost of $967.35.

Additionally, the council approved a request from the MFL MarMac Dollars for Scholars to utilize city streets the morning of June 12 to hold a color walk/run. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the MFL MarMac junior class for Dollars for Scholars. Registration will be from 7 to 8 a.m. at the city park, and the walk/run will go from 8 to 9 a.m.

Ordinance change related to vehicle noise

The council approved the second reading and waived the third reading amending an ordinance pertaining to noise created by running vehicles. City administrator Barb Collins said the change would allow businesses or personal contractors with semi trucks to leave town, or leave their vehicles running for a short time, between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. That is currently prohibited.

Company selected to clean sewer lines

The council agreed to hire RCT Sewer and Vac to televise, jet and vacuum an estimated 10,342 feet of city sewer line. The city plans to have the work completed prior to moving forward with funding and bidding for a sewer lining project. The televising/cleaning will cost around $19,857.
