The Central School Board last week awarded a contract for a classroom remodeling project to a Manchester company. Loecke Building Service submitted the lowest bid of $432,000 for work that will include the renovation of four classrooms on the building’s second floor. A start date for the project has not yet been determined, but Central Superintendent Nick Trenkamp expects work will begin shortly after the last day of school.

The board also received a proposal from the Central Education Association for a 3.6 percent increase in members’ total compensation package. The board proposed a 2 percent increase. Trenkamp said negotiations will begin soon.

In addition, the board approved a graduation roster of 34 students and set May 28 as the last day of school.

A number of coaching positions were also approved. Brady Stramer, Tony Smith, Jarod Bormann, Becky Lower, Allison Burkle and Jamie Scherf were named volunteer softball coaches. Hannah Erickson will be the assistant softball coach. Looking ahead to winter sports, the board approved the following positions: boys basketball - Brady Stramer, head coach, and Blake Rodenberg, assistant; junior high boys basketball - Michael Beck; girls basketball - Mark Wiley, head coach, and Molly Scherf, assistant; junior high - Katie Wiley; wrestling - Joe Koehn, head coach, and Tim Rupard, assistant; cheerleading sponsor - Paula Mahoney; large group speech - Brandon Douglas; individual speech - Carolyn Yanda; fall play - Carolyn Yanda; and spring musical - Brandon Douglas.

At an earlier meeting, the board accepted two resignations. Debra Walz, a long-time teacher in family consumer sciences, and Alyssa Cobie-Nuss, school counselor, will leave Central at the end of the current academic year.
