Michael Scott Brindley, 64, of Boscobel, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at his home.

He was born on June 27, 1956, in Boscobel, the son of Jack and Ellen (Quinn) Brindley. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Connely on Sept. 22, 2007. Michael was a lifelong resident of Boscobel, except when he attended the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and Madison, where he received a degree in teaching in 1979. However, his teaching career did not take root until later in life. After a short time pursuing various endeavors, including operating a surplus store in Mineral Point, he returned to Boscobel. He spent many happy years working both at Land’s End and with his family at Brindley Motors. Michael joined the Boscobel Fire Department and proudly remained a member for 30 years. He treasured the deep friendships he made with the members and their families. His pride at being able to contribute to his community was plainly obvious, never more so than in the role he long held on behalf of the fire department: organizing and managing Boscobel’s 4th of July parade. He relished in sharing stories about bringing together local business people, crafts people, firemen and law enforcement, and politicians of all persuasions. After working at Land’s End and Brindley Motors, Michael began two new roles. One was becoming a postman for the Richland Center post office, which eventually allowed him to have a route serving people in the Blue River area. The other was more significant for Michael. He was thrilled to at last be able to fully engage in his first passion, teaching. Michael was a regular substitute teacher for seven area school districts, for all grades and subjects. He wanted everyone to know how important it was to spend time with young people, and how rewarding it was to make a difference in their lives. Michael was an affable, generous, and bluntly honest friend, brother, father and husband. He could and would discuss any subject, but enjoyed most of all talking about the Brewers, Packers and especially the Badgers and Bulldogs. His passion for the UW never waned, and he demonstrated his commitment to Boscobel’s football program, where both sons Dylan and Chandler played, by founding the Gridiron Club to help with funding.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine, of Boscobel; two sons, Dylan (Sarah) Brindley of Madison and Chandler Brindley of Boscobel; seven siblings, Sherry (Carl) Georgeff of Beloit, Bob (Sarah) Brindley of Linden, Tom Brindley of Mount Horeb, Jackie (Tim) Gall of Oregon, Jill Reynolds of Long Beach, Calif., Becky Subin of West Palm Beach, Fla., Brian Brindley of Madison; sister-in-law Phyllis Bell of Gays Mills, and many nieces, nephews and special family members, along with dear friends Rod (Caroline) Hometh of West Newbury, Mass., Lynn Vial of Boscobel, and Greg Reynolds of Boscobel.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Steve and Tim Brindley; two brothers-in-law, Robert Connely Jr. and Gary Bell; and a special aunt and uncle, Joyce and Galin Nelson.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Boscobel, with burial to follow in the Boscobel Cemetery. Immediately following the committal service, food and fellowship will follow at the Boscobel Bowl and Banquet along with a Celebration of Michael’s Life. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at the Boscobel Fire Department and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday morning.

The Larson Family Funeral Home, in Fennimore, is assisting the family and online.
