Grau delivers in distance events

Kaylee Walch ran a leg in each of the Bulldogs’ four relays on April 15. The team placed third in the distance medley, fourth in the 4x100, fifth in the 4x400 and sixth in the sprint medley.

The MFL MarMac girls track and field team placed seventh out of eight teams at the April 15 MFL MarMac Invitational. 

 

The Bulldogs received one of their biggest boosts from freshman Clare Grau, who finished second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:30.15. She turned in a time of 6:16.93 in the 1500, which was good for fifth place.

 

Other distance competitors included Kaylee Nuehring, who was seventh in the 1500 at 6:51.77 and 12th in the 800 at 3:21.98. Alexis Ross had a mark of 3:17.19 in the 800, putting her 10th.

 

Sadie Ewing highlighted the sprint events for MFL MarMac, running a 13.93 in the 100 meter dash, for seventh place. Melanie Ruff was 11th in the event at 14.78 seconds, and finished 10th in the 200, thanks to an effort of 31.01. 

 

Amelya Weigand competed in the 200 as well, posting a time of 31.9 seconds to finish 14th. She really shined in the 400, however, finishing fifth at 1:15.94. With a time of 1:21.03, Ross was eighth in the 400.

 

In the relays, the Bulldogs had their best result in the 1600 distance medley, where Mackenzy Ruff, Ewing, Ayla Gerndt and Kaylee Walch combined to place third with a time of 5:19.08. The team was fourth in the 4x100, thanks to a mark of 59.36 from Abby Schellhorn, Walch, Melanie Ruff and Ewing. The group of Ross, Walch, Schellhorn and Gerndt was fifth in the 4x100 at 5:09.28, while Walch, Melanie Ruff, Ewing and Gerndt came in sixth in the 800 sprint medley with an effort of 2:14.83.

 

In the field events, Mackenzy Ruff competed in both the discus and shot put for MFL MarMac. The senior tallied a throw of 76 feet, 5 inches to place fifth in the discus, and her toss of 27 feet, 11 inches earned her seventh in the shot. Weigand turned in a jump of 11 feet, 10.75 inches in the long jump, which was good for ninth.

 

The Bulldogs now have a busy week, starting with a meet at New Hampton on April 19, then at Crestwood on April 20. The team will head to North Fayette Valley on April 23.
