Seniors Ewing and Ruff lead MFL MarMac in first two meets

A throw of 25 feet, 8 inches put Mackenzy Ruff 14th in the shot put at the Postville meet.

On April 6, Ayla Gerndt participated in four of MFL MarMac’s five relays, including the 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley and distance medley.

The MFL MarMac girls track team kicked off its season at Postville on April 6. 

 

There, the Bulldogs were led by senior Sadie Ewing, who turned in two top-five finishes. Ewing’s best effort was in the 400 hurdles, where she placed fourth with a time of 1:22.31. She was fifth in the 100 meter dash, completing the event in 13.79.

 

Melanie Ruff competed in both the 100 and 200 for MFL MarMac. She placed 14th in the 100 at 14.40 and was 13th in the 200 at 30.49. Other sprinters included Abby Schellhorn, who was 16th in the 100 with a time of 14.84, while Mackenzy Ruff and Amelya Weigand were 24th and 26th, respectively, in the 200 with times of 33.67 and 33.94.

 

Kaylee Nuehring represented the Bulldogs in the 400, finishing the lap around the track in 1:27.87—good for 15th place.

 

In the distance events, Clare Grau took the 11th spot in the 800 with a time of 3:06.41. Alexis Ross was 13th in that event, finishing in 3:15.45.

 

MFL MarMac ran in five relays. The best result came in the 4x800, where Ayla Gerndt, Nuehring, Kaylee Walch and Grau combined to place sixth with a time of 12:46.24. The group of Walch, Ross, Gerndt and Grau completed the 4x400 in 5:15.26, finishing eighth. The Bulldogs were also eighth in the 1600 distance medley, thanks to a 5:24.28 time from Schellhorn, Ewing, Gerndt and Grau. 

 

In the 4x100, Schellhorn, Weigand, Melanie Ruff and Ewing earned the 10th spot with a time of 1:02.96. The team of Weigand, Melanie Ruff, Mackenzy Ruff and Gerndt was 11th in the 800 sprint medley based on a 2:18.80 finish.

 

Mackenzy Ruff was the Bulldogs’ only field competitor at Postville. She placed 14th in the shot put with a throw of 25 feet, 8 inches. An effort of 70 feet, 4 inches put her 17th in the discus.

 

MFL MarMac was back in action April 8, at the Starmont Invitational. 

 

Ruff was the Bulldogs’ top individual performer at that meet, placing fourth in both the shot put and discus. She upped her discus throw to 72 feet, 8.5 inches and shot distance to 28 feet, 7.75 inches.

 

MFL MarMac also had a strong showing in the relays, including a third place result in the 1600 distance medley with a time of 5:33.44. The Bulldogs were fourth in both the 4x800 and sprint medley, thanks to respective times of 13:09.72 and 2:16.59. They completed the 4x400 in 5:27.13 to finish sixth.

 

This week, the Bulldogs’ schedule includes a meet at Waukon on April 13, then a home meet in Monona on April 15.
