Catherine Ann Loftsgard, 88, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, March, 20, 2021, at Good Samaritian Home in West Union. Catherine was born Jan. 12, 1933, to Phil and Ruey (Regan) Boland. She was baptized on Jan. 29, 1933, received her first communion on June 2, 1945, and was confirmed on April 15, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elkader.

 

Catherine married Bernard G. Loftsgard on March 31, 1951. They were blessed with four children, Jerry, Larry, Marilyn and Bernard Wayne. She and Bernard lived in northeast Iowa their entire life, farming the Loftsgard homestead and a trucking business. 

 

Catherine is survived by two children, Jerry (Bev) Loftsgard and Marilyn (Milt) Schutte; and daughter-in-law, Paula Loftsgard. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jarrod Loftsgard, Chantel (Troy) Johnson, Ryan (Rachel) Schutte, Josh Loftsgard, Wade Schutte and Rhett Loftsgard; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Peyton and Madison Loftsgard, Kelby and Kaleb Johnson, Reagan and Riley Schutte, Clayton Loftsgard and Leif Loftsgard; and one brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Judy Loftsgard. 

 

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Ruey Boland; her husband, Bernard G. Loftsgard; sons, Larry and Bernard W. Loftsgard; five brothers, Edward, John, Kenneth, Jerry and Jim; two sisters, Ruth Courtney and Helen Elias; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gilbert and Bessie Loftsgard.

 

In her final hours, she let us know she had a full and prosperous life and that Bernard was calling her home. 

 

The family would like to thank Good Samaritan home in West Union and Gundersen Palmar Lutheran Hospice for their wonderful and loving care.

 

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 28, at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, with a prayer service at 2 p.m. and a visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Rev. Marshall Hahn will be the officiant.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospice and Marion Lutheran Church.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin is assisting the family with arrangements.
