New Elkader Main Street, economic development director hired
The city of Elkader and the Main Street Elkader Board of Directors are pleased to announce the selection of a new Economic Development Director/Main Street Elkader Director.
Samantha Baumgartner is an Elkader native who is passionate about continuing the tradition of success of Main Street Elkader. She believes this can be accomplished through authentic community planning focused on rural economic viability, strengthened family-community partnerships and community well-being initiatives.
Baumgartner has a master’s degree from Buena Vista University, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and has completed coursework at Loras College. In her current position, she has served as the K-12 dean of students, at-risk coordinator and activities director for West Central Community School District.
“In Samantha, we saw a passion for sustaining the history, beauty and economic viability of our vibrant town,” said Elkader Mayor Josh Pope. “There are many applicable skills between her work experience and this position, the most important being relationship-building with a diverse population.”
Baumgartner will begin her new duties at the end of June and said this position is an incredible opportunity to serve her community.
“I’m overjoyed to be entering a position where I can serve my hometown and aid in keeping our historic downtown thriving,” she said.
