Five MFL MarMac girls basketball players are all-conference picks

Five members of the MFL MarMac girls basketball team have earned Upper Iowa all-conference honors. Riley Moreland was named to the first team and Kayden Gillitzer and Miranda Lang to the second team, while Lakota Morrissey and Ashley Shaw were honorable mention selections.

 

Moreland, a junior, played in all 23 games for the Bulldogs, averaging 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. She was the MFL MarMac leader in both categories and third best in the conference in point and rebound totals. Additionally, Moreland racked up 41 blocks, third best among Upper Iowa players, with 1.8 blocks per game. Her 46 steals and 40 assists placed her second on the team.

 

Along with the all-conference recognition, Moreland was also a selection to the Iowa Girls and Coaches Association Class 2A Northeast District team.

 

One of the Bulldogs’ two seniors, Gillitzer played in 21 games this season. Her 9.9 points per game were second best on the team, while her 4.3 rebounds per game were third best. Gillitzer did much of her scoring from behind the arc, sinking 30 of 85 three-point attempts, for a 35.3 percent clip. She had the third best three-point percentage in the conference and made the fifth most threes. Gillitzer was strong in several other categories as well, finishing third on the team in steals, with 43, and fourth in assists, with 24.

 

In 23 games, Lang averaged 8 points per contest, which was third best among MFL MarMac players. The junior had a team-high 63 assists, or 2.7 per game, in addition to a team-high 53 steals, or 2.3 per game.

 

Morrissey, also a junior, averaged 4.5 points and 2.3 rebounds over 22 games. She was third on the team with 33 assists, or 1.5 per game, and also nabbed 25 steals, or 1.1 per game.

 

Shaw played in 23 games for the Bulldogs, most of them coming off the bench. The sophomore contributed 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Her 53 rebounds were the fourth highest total on the team and her 18 steals were fifth highest.
