Don F. McFarland Jr., 83, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born May 2, 1937, in Soldiers Grove, the son of Donald and Mary (Craig) McFarland. Don served in the U.S. Navy and later became a regional manager for Xerox Company in Springfield and Peoria, Ill. He was an accomplished airplane and helicopter pilot and owned his own private plane. He was also a flight instructor and trained many pilots throughout the years. He retired to Sun City, Ariz., and most recently had moved back to the Midwest. 

He is survived by his sisters, Joyce (John) Luster and Eileen Pickrum; along with his brother-in-law, Charles Luster; nephews, Leo McFarland, Ted and Tim Johnson, Mark, Mike and Bill Pickrum and John Luster Jr.; nieces, Shelia Kieffer, Maureen Peters, Collen Pulvermacher, Marykay Stevens, Diane Morovits, Tammy Bartholomew and Joan Bowar. 

Don was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Bud, John and Leo McFarland; his sisters, Rita Luster and Regina Johnson; along with brothers-in-law, William Pickrum and Warren Johnson; sister-in-law, Margaret McFarland; and nephew, Nevin Johnson.

A private Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, with inurnment in the St. Philips Cemetery in Rolling Ground. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
