Gina Roys will continue in her role as president of the MFL MarMac School Board. Fellow board members re-elected Roys during the organizational meeting Dec. 14. Roberta Hass will serve as vice president.

The other MFL MarMac school board members include Collin Stubbs, Joshua Grau, Jonathon Moser, Brian Meyer and Tonya Meyer.

In the future, the board might have some additional company at its table. Superintendent Dale Crozier proposed the idea of having a student participate in the monthly meetings.

“They couldn’t vote, but they would give input,” he shared. “It was just an idea to get more involvement.”

Crozier said students could interview for the spot, then be selected to participate. If there’s interest from more than one student, participants could rotate from month to month.

Virtual Wednesdays will continue through January

The district will continue with its hybrid learning model—in-person instruction from Monday to Tuesday and Thursday to Friday, then virtual learning from home on Wednesdays—through at least January. Crozier said MFL MarMac will continue to evaluate this.

“If we do go back to five days, I’d like to start back slowly, with half days,” he warned.

Now halfway through the year, high school principal Larry Meyer said it feels like things are more normal, and he’s gotten more time with students. He praised the district’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Things are really good numbers wise. I think there’s one positive throughout the whole district,” he said. “I think we’ve done everything the right way.”

Staffing changes approved

The board approved some staffing changes at the meeting, including the resignation of middle school custodian Al Thornton, who’s worked for the district for 26 years.

“We will miss him,” said Crozier, who added that substitutes will fill in at the position for the rest of the year.

Additionally, the board accepted a contract for Hayley Muse as an elementary paraprofessional.
