David Lee French, 72, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg.

He was born June 1, 1948, to parents John W. and Marguerite (Cathman) French in Prairie du Chien. He graduated from West Grant High School. After high school, Dave worked at Design Homes and did interior house painting in Prairie du Chien. Dave will be remembered for his kind and loving heart. His family meant everything to him. He was a Packers, Brewers, and UW sports fan and enjoyed watching the games. He looked forward to visits with niece Julie taking photos, niece Jodie cutting his hair, or nephews Jeff and Jon talking deer hunting. Dave had a strong connection with the muscle cars of the 50s and 60s. His brother Mike would stop to see Dave with his car club, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Many visits from brother Bill, and sister Mary’s baking treats kept Dave connected to his family. Dave was also so thankful for his loving sister and guardian Peggy who helped him with all of his needs through his final years.

Survivors include sisters, Mary Valley and Peggy Deininger (Joe); brothers Bill French and Michael French (Debbie); eight nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Home with a Heart Assisted Living in Muscoda, for making him part of their family, Inclusa for assistance in managing Dave’s care, and Agrace Hospice in the final days of Dave’s life.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a future date when it is safe to gather. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
