Jeanette Mary Zimmer Sherman, 81, of Bloomington, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, after a 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s/dementia and, most recently, COVID-19. Jeanette was able to age in place at her home with husband John’s constant care until her dementia needs increased. She was then moved to Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa, in August of 2018.

Jeanette was born to the late Lawrence and Mildred (Dolphin) Zimmer, Glen Haven, on Dec. 19, 1939. After Mildred’s premature death due to cancer in 1946, Lawrence married Meryl Dolphin. After Jeanette graduated from Bloomington High School, she married her high school sweetheart, John Sherman, in 1957. When their two children were in elementary school, Jeanette went on to receive her B.A. in Education, M.A. in School Counseling, and M.A. in School Administration from UW-Platteville. Her love for education was endless; she was happiest when sharing knowledge with the important people in her life. Jeanette had a passion for knowledge, cooking, gardening, and helping others. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was always there to help out in any way. She saw the good in everyone and always strived to make others feel that they were important.

She is survived by her husband, John of Bloomington; daughter, Milli of Dousman; and son, Doug of Madison. In addition to her son-in-law Jim, and daughter-in-law Susan, she is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Francis, Norma and Betsy.

A private family burial was held on Dec. 5, in Scott Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory, in Bloomington, is assisting the family.
