The number of active COVID-19 cases in Clayton County continues to affect residents and the local healthcare community, with long-term care facilities feeling a major impact from the pandemic.

As of Sunday, Dec. 13, the Iowa Department of Health reported four new cases in the county in the previous 24 hours for a total of 1,256 since the pandemic began. There have been 24 deaths in the county. Recovered cases number 879 and active cases stand at 353. 

Two long-term care facilities in the county — the Guttenberg Care Center and the Great Living Care Center in McGregor were among the 143 facilities statewide reporting outbreaks. As of Sunday, the Guttenberg facility was reporting 49 cases among staff and residents since the pandemic began, and the McGregor facility reported 39.

Clayton County is one of 59 Iowa counties reporting a 14-day positivity rate of 15% of higher. The 14-day positivity rate in the county stood at 16.3% on Saturday.

Statewide on Sunday, the health department reported 436,773 total positive cases since the pandemic began earlier this year with a related death toll of 4,056.
