Sam A. Baker, 79, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at Prairie Maison after a long battle with Parkinson’s. 

He was born on July 26, 1941, in Richland Center, the son of Orlie and Anne (Preston) Baker. Sam graduated from Boscobel High School and later married Marcia (Susie) Crusan in 1962. Sam was a farmer in Boscobel and later in the Seneca area for many years. In 1979, he received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award in Crawford County. He raised Simmental cattle and belonged to the Wisconsin Simmental Association. Later, he worked at Design Home for nine years. He was an avid outdoorsman. Sam was active in 4-H softball as a coach and in the Seneca Little League. He loved fishing, hunting and trapping. Sam was a wonderful husband and father. He saw our family through some difficult times. He was a member of the Seneca Methodist Church until it closed. 

Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susie; his children, Michael (Lori), Lisa Nies, Mark (Teresa Burgus), Jason, Lena (Eric) Kelley, and Nathan; his brothers Preston (Karen), Clarence (Dee), Kenneth (Marlene), Tom (Kim), Harold and Ben (Julie); sisters, Belle Ann (Ed) Achenbach, Lana (Harvey) Sheets, Janet (Mark Sprague) Baker, Patty (Steven) Kvigne; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Johnathon, and an infant granddaughter.

A Memorial Service will be Monday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, with Pastor Maria Kim officiating, with interment in the Dickson Ridge Cemetery in Lynxville.
