Several area schools approve of sports this fall

The Prairie du Chien School Board Monday night approved of having all of its high school fall sports played this upcoming fall.

Fall sports at Prairie du Chien includes football, boys soccer, girls golf, boys and girls cross country and volleyball.

The Seneca School Board recently approved of having all of its fall sports moved to the spring, as allowed under the latest ruling by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wauzeka-Steuben will have volleyball and cross country this fall. It is unknown if Wauzeka-Steuben will have fall football. Wauzeka-Steuben has been part of a football co-op with Seneca for the past several years.

“Several options have been explored, and a recommendation from the coaches and the athletic director will be presented to the board at a special meeting tomorrow afternoon (Aug. 26) at 3:30 p.m. in the school’s all purpose room,” said Wauzeka-Steuben District Administrator Dave Alexander. “I expect the board will make a decision about football at that meeting.”

River Ridge approved of having all of their sports this fall during a school board meeting Tuesday night. River Ridge offers football, volleyball and cross country.

Schools who are likely playing football in the fall in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference (SWC)  include Dodgeville, Platteville (pending board approval on Aug. 28), Prairie du Chien, Richland Center (pending board approval on Aug. 31), and River Valley.

SWC spring football  schools include Brodhead/Juda, and New Glarus/Monticello.

SWAL fall football - Darlington, Lancaster, and Mineral Point.

SWAL spring football - Belleville, Cuba City, Fennimore, and Parkview/Albany.

Six Rivers fall football - Iowa-Grant, Pecatonica/Argyle, Potosi/Cassville, and River Ridge.

Six Rivers spring football - Benton/Shullsburg/Scales Mound, Black Hawk/Warren, and Southwestern.
