Elaine K. Hanson, 79, of Flint, Mich., died Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Fostrian Court Assisted Living in Flushing, Mich., of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 14, 1940, the daughter of Albert Christian Frederick and Mildred Maxine (Pardee) Fisher of Garnavillo. Elaine graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1958, and from Iowa State University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

On June 10, 1962, Elaine was united in marriage with Edward Kenneth Hanson in Garnavillo. Shortly after, they moved to Flint, Mich., where Elaine worked for the Flint School System as a teacher and later as a substitute teacher. With the birth of the couple’s first child, Elaine became a stay-at-home mother, whose days were filled with volunteer work for The Carman-Ainsworth School District. After her children were grown, she worked as a one-on-one private tutor for The Learning Center of Flint SW for 17 years, retiring in 2011. Over the years, her hobbies included needlework and reading. She greatly enjoyed browsing through antique shops and collecting antique glassware.

Elaine is survived by one son, Jeffrey (Margie Sharp) Hanson, of Flint, Mich.; one daughter, Cynthia (Jeff) Kolb of Clarksville; one brother-in-law, Robert David (Claire) Hanson of Iowa City; two sisters-in-law, Ruth (David) Wilson and Charlotte Warren, both of Iowa City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on Jan. 9, 2018; her parents; and many aunts; uncles and cousins.
