Warriors fall victim to late rallies

The Central Warrior softball team now has a season record of 3-7, following a tough week filled with rain postponements and make-up games.
The Warriors kicked off play at MFL MarMac on June 23, losing the first game of a doubleheader 7-2 and the second 4-2, after giving up a four-run sixth inning.
On Wednesday, June 24, they played the first game of a planned doubleheader against Clayton Ridge. The game was a lead-changing affair that came down to clutch hitting by the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth, sealing a 12-11 victory.
Notable players for the Warriors were Delaney Scherf, who had two hits, drove in three and reached base five times, and Maddy Wille, who had two hits—including a double—and scored three runs.
The real crushing loss came in game two of the doubleheader against Clayton Ridge, which was postponed and played on Thursday due to weather. The game was tied 6-6 until Clayton Ridge’s Savannah Meyer hit a two-run walk-off home run to win the game.
The week was a “learning experience,” said Central pitcher Chelsia Larson. “It was difficult because we were going through the week not being able to have a practice to fix our mistakes, but just fix them throughout our games.”
The Warriors will look to get back to their winning ways this week against 4-5 Springville on Monday, June 29. They will then play two games against West Central on Wednesday, July 1, before finishing the week with a doubleheader against South Winn on Thursday, July 2.
