The Clayton Ridge/Central War Eagles won their first game of the season on June 23, against Turkey Valley. The Trojans nearly rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the War Eagles held on to the narrow 4-3 victory.

Key performers included Caleb Helle, who struck out 11 batters, and Oakley Harbaugh, who had a hit, RBI and a stolen base. Drake Ostrander went 1-3, drove in a run and scored once.

The team tried to keep the winning momentum going June 24, against Kee. The Hawks couldn’t be tamed, though, totaling 11 runs on 11 hits for an 11-2 victory.

The War Eagles led 1-0 until the third inning, when the Hawks tied the game. Kee added to the lead in every inning after that.

Harbaugh had a solid effort for Clayton Ridge/Central, with one hit, one run scored and one RBI. Caleb Helle finished the game 2-4 and Ostrander tallied a hit and run scored.

The War Eagles finished the week with a June 26 doubleheader against the undefeated South Winneshiek Warriors.

Game one was the Cael Kuboushek show. The Warrior dominated from the mound and with his bat, amassing four hits, six RBIs and two stolen bases and scoring three runs in the 14-2 victory.

The War Eagles had no answer, and an 11-run fourth inning by the Warriors put the game out of reach.

Hazen Loan had two hits and scored a run for Clayton Ridge/Central. Caleb Helle added a hit and an RBI to his season total.

In the second game of the doubleheader, South Winn reeled off nine runs in the first two innings, before finishing with an 11-3 win.

The War Eagles, who scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning, were led by Loan, who had two hits and scored a run. Harbaugh, Brandon Thiese and Sean Wilwert each added an RBI.

Clayton Ridge/Central will look to right the ship this week. The team will face Kee in a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 30. On Wednesday, July 1, they will face North Fayette Valley and, on Thursday, July 2, will meet Jesup. The week ends on Friday, July 3, with a doubleheader against Turkey Valley.
