Prairie gets over Wisconsin Heights
Top seeded Prairie du Chien came from behind to get past visiting and fourth seeded Wisconsin Heights 4-3 in a regional semifinal baseball game Tuesday afternoon.
Heights took the early lead by scoring a run in the top of the second inning and another in the third to go up 2-0.
Prairie scored 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.
Each team scored a run in the sixth inning to make the score 3-3.
Prairie held Heights in the top of the seventh and then scored the game-winner in the bottom half to earn the 4-3 victory.
The Vanguards had 7 hits and committed 3 errors. The Blackhawks had 6 hits and committed 3 errors.
Gavin Gillitzer went 2x4 at the plate with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Jon Nicholson was 2x4 with 2 RBI. Grant Martin was 1x2. Dylan Coleman was 1x3 with a run scored.
Ryan McGrath came on in relief to pick up the win. He fanned 2 while walking none and giving up 1 hit in 2 innings. Gillitzer was the starter. He struck out 10, walked 2 and gave up 6 hits in 5 innings.
Prairie du Chien advanced to host third-seeded Fennimore in the regional final on Wednesday.
