The MFL MarMac boys track team has new leadership this season, with the addition of head coach Kyle Kirkestue. A Bulldog alum, Kirkestue has served as an assistant for both track and football, but this will be his first time in charge. He looks forward to gaining experience through this opportunity, as well as helping his athletes grow.

“I feel I have a simple coaching philosophy, and that is to develop young student athletes into outstanding individuals by using the sport to teach valuable life lessons,” Kirkestue said. “The athlete will learn the principles that make up a strong and reliable work ethic.”

This year’s team includes eight returning letter winners, including seniors Dylan Corlett and Zach Trudo, who Kirkestue noted will serve as good leaders for the younger members.

“They were the leaders last year, as we had no senior leadership, and stepped up to the challenge,” he said.

Other key returners who Kirkestue believes will make a big impact are junior Kutter Anderson and sophomores Cayden Ball and Colin Moses.

The Bulldogs also have a slew of new faces ready to make their mark.

“Caleb Nordheim, Kale Miene and Austin Nickolai are some that I feel will have a big impact on our team this year,” Kirkestue shared.

MFL MarMac will have a lot of depth in the distance events this season. As the season progresses, Kirkestue said his team hopes to see times go down, along with improvement in each meet.

“The main thing I want to see is my group of guys become a team, to have them run and compete for each other,” he said. “When you have a group of guys that are willing to do their best for one another, it has a bigger impact and the team will achieve great things.”
