Travel down memory lane at museum event

Take an excursion through McGregor’s storied past at the McGregor Historical Museum’s fall event, “Traveling Down Memory Lane.”
Held on Friday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m., the event will feature speakers Corky Bickel, Bob Myers and Herb Collins, who will share their memories of the community.
Some of the topics will include river adventures, storm sewer wild rides, early recollections of Main Street merchants and McGregor characters who were known and loved.
The museum held a similar event—but with different speakers—last fall and received such a good response it was a no-brainer to try it again, said director Diane Malcom.
“Hearing a story is a lot of fun—even more fun than reading about it,” she remarked. “And every person has a story to tell.”
Sharing stories is an important part of preserving the town’s history, Malcom noted. They add depth to the museum’s extensive collection of photos, newspapers and other artifacts.
“If they’re not documented or recorded, eventually that whole walking encyclopedia of stories will be gone,” she said.
In addition to listening to the speakers’ memories, attendees are welcome to add to the conversation by sharing memories of their own or asking questions.
Museum members and guests can also explore the museum before or after the event. There’s always something new to see or learn about.
Space will be limited, so please RSVP to Malcom at mcgregoriowamuseum@gmail.com.
