Lady Hawks win thriller over Lady Hornets
Prairie du Chien volleyball hosted the Richland Center Hornets on Tuesday night.
The team fed off of a loud and energetic atmosphere, thanks to a great home crowd, to finish with a win 3 sets to 2. The scores were 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 17-25, 15-12.
The Blackhawks started out a little slow in the first match and were down 11-3 but picked it up when Karli Myers served 7 points in a row her first time up. Along with some strong hitting by Emily Groom, the Hawks gained back the lead in the first set and never looked back.
In the second game, the team started out stronger and were able to finish the same way taking a 2-0 set lead.
The Hornets didn't give in, winning the next 2 sets, setting up a 5th and final showdown for the win.
Ending the 4th set with some momentum, the Blackhawks continued it into the 5th. In the 5th set, both teams battled hard going point for point until the score was tied at 11-11 before ending the set 15-12.
As a team the Blackhawks had 9 ace serves coming from Brytta Sagedahl with 3, Karli Myers and Caitlin Pattison each with 2 and Emily Groom and Keya Welch each with 1. Richland Center had no answer for Emily Groom, who had one of her best games yet with 17 kills, followed by Cailtin Pattison with 10, Brytta Sagedahl with 7, Alexis Nolan with 5, Gabby Toberman with 4 and Kylee Weber with 3. Caitlin Pattison and Emily Groom worked hard to set their hitters up tallying 19 and 16 assists respectively. Emily Groom also led with 1 solo block and 2 block assists, Alexis Nolan with 2 block assists and Hope Martin, Kylee Weber and Gabby Toberman each with 1 block assist. Caitlin Pattison led the team with 14 digs, followed by Lindsey Nicholson with 10, Brytta Sagedahl with 9, Emily Groom with 8, Keya Welch with 7, Karli Myers with 4 and Kylee Weber and Alexis Nolan each with 1.
This was a big win for the Blackhawks and it was great to have such an energetic crowd behind them.
The JV team lost a close match, 2 sets to 1. The first set was a heartbreaker losing 29 -27, and the Blackhawks just couldn't get the momentum back on their side. The Fr/So team won 2 sets to 1.
The Blackhawks next take on River Valley at home on Thursday night.
