Timothy G. Crady, 72, of Sparta, died Sunday, Feb. 18, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1945, to Herman and Audrey (Harwood) Crady, in Dubuque, Iowa. Tim grew up in the Prairie du Chien area. In 1963, at 17 years old, he enlisted in the US Navy where he joined on the buddy system with his older brother Paul and together they both served on the U.S.S. Lyman K. Swenson. Tim was honorably discharged Dec. 12, 1966. Following the service, Tim lived in Phoenix, Ariz., before moving back to southwestern Wisconsin in which he farmed tobacco and had an automotive recycling business. He worked at UW-La Crosse and at Ft. McCoy as a Boiler Tender until his retirement in 2002. Tim enjoyed playing cribbage, chess and sudoku.

Tim is survived by his three children: two daughters Rachel (David) Kekic, of Ariz., and their children, Zachary, Breionna, and Madison; Danielle (Brian) Steinhoff, of Cashton, and their children, Jacob (Nikki) Endres, Jessica (Kristopher) Schmidt, Richard Preston, and Heather Preston; and his son Timothy “Bear” Crady II, of Sparta and his children, Catie and Logan. He is also survived by a brother, James (Margaret) Crady. He is further survived by his two great-granddaughters Dani and Addison; three step-children Gile, Kathryn, and Scott; seven step-grandchildren Tina, Trisha, Phoenix, C.J., LeAnn, Sarah and Amber; a sister-in-law Karen Crady; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Audrey Crady; an infant brother Stephen; his brothers, Dan, David and Paul Crady; sister, Patricia Hill; and a nephew Mark Crady.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Fuenral Home, Sparta, with a memorial service at 3 p.m. The afternoon will conclude with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. Online condolences can be offered to Tim’s family at www.schanhoferfh.com.
