LaVern J. Kuehl
LaVern Joseph “Mac” Kuehl, 95, Elkport, died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester.
Visitation was Sunday, June 25, at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Monday.
Funeral services were Monday, June 26, at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, conducted by Rev. Margaret Yackel-Juleen.
Burial was in Mt. Harmony Cemetery, Elkport.
Mac was born on Oct. 7, 1921, rural Elkport, to John and Clara (Horstman) Kuehl Sr. He graduated from Elkport High School with the class of 1938.
Mac was united in marriage to Cora Mae Stocks on Dec. 20, 1944, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport. Two children were born to this union. Mac farmed for many years until his retirement at which time he did carpentry work.
He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport and later Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport. He was active in the church choir and loved to sing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his two children, Judith Ann Koth, Elkport and Gary LaVern (Nancy) Kuehl, Elkader; four grandchildren, Brian (Christina) Koth, Elkport, Tim (Dana) Kuehl, North Liberty, Paul (Beth) Kuehl, Hudson, Rachel (Darrell) Jaster, Elkport; 11 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Connor, Matthew and Brandon Koth, Callie, Brady and Saari Kuehl, Luke and Ayden Kuehl, McKenna and Collin Jaster; two step great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jared Melcher; one sister-in-law, Francis Kuehl, Cedar Falls and several nieces and nephews.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on March 20, 2010; son-in-law, Keith Koth, on Dec, 29, 2004; and his siblings, Louis, John Jr., Elmer, Bill, Dorothy, Marvin, Raymond and Ralph.
