Hazel Anna Wilhelmina (Heins) (Dietz) Anderegg, 93, from the Guttenberg area, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.

There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Hazel was born on the family farm near Luana, the daughter, one of 11 children of whom ten were daughters, of Louis and Roma (Bittner) Heins. As the third oldest daughter, she worked outside on the farm growing up and enjoyed working in the yard and garden all her life. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing to the big bands at the Lakeside Ballroom in Guttenberg and later watching Lawrence Welk on TV. She married her second husband, Harold "Red" Anderegg, on Sept. 16, 1961, in Postville. She spent many years in the Council Bluffs area working for Campbells Soup before retiring and moving “back home” to Frenchtown.

She loved her trips out West camping with Red during their annual summer vacations and hunting and fishing. She enjoyed the time she spent with all her friends at Campbells Soup and the Guttenberg area and her many family members. The sisters used to all enjoy getting together with their extended families for family picnics along the Mississippi in Guttenberg when their children were still young and in the area.

After retiring, she and Red always loved having a little dog around to spoil. She was quick to start a conversation with sales clerks everywhere as she enjoyed sharing her sense of humor with them. As an eternal optimist, she could usually find something to laugh about and look forward to. They often became some of her many friends who enjoyed chatting with her. Her children grew up listening to one of her favorite sayings about life: “What is right is right!” This was her version of always following the golden rule and treating everyone fairly, something she strived to do herself.

Left to mourn her passing are her two remaining sons, Nicholas and Leon (Gina) Dietz with Leon’s three children, his son, Nathan (Radia) Dietz, Nathan’s daughter, Alena Dietz; Gina’s two daughters from her first marriage, Evette Thornburg and her daughter, Cheyenne; Mary Antunez with her children, Elijah Flores, Dejah Torres and Layla Antunez; Hazel’s daughters, Donna Krenz (Tom Bates) and Carol Genrich with Carol’s daughter, Kimberly (Genrich) (Mark) Zaccagnino and Kim’s son, David. The children of Hazel’s deceased son, Mark, Mark Dietz Jr; Scott Dietz; James Dietz and children, James, Elizabeth, April and Zachary; Brian Dietz (Jody) and children, Gavin, Ashley and Allie; Lori (Dietz) Straight (Jason) and children, Tyler and Ethan; Phillip Dietz (Francesca) and children, Destiny and Phil. The three sons of Mark’s deceased wife, Judy, Jeff Johansen (Jodee) and children from Jeff’s first marriage, Katie and Karin; Christian Johansen (Gabrielle) and his children, Johann and Daniel; Eric Johansen (Missy) and his children, Megan and Emma; Hazel’s four sisters, Lavonne (Glen) Mueller; Shirley Sutton; Rose Marie (Richard) Duwe; and Gerene (William) Morarend; along with brothers-in-law, Leo McNally and Henry Geick; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Red Anderegg; from her first marriage to Nick Dietz, son, Mark Dietz; her parents; brother, Cyril Heins; sisters, Birdena Behrend, Violet McNally, Ida Mae Behrend, Roma Lahrs, and Betty Geick; brothers-in-law, Freddie Lahrs, Bill Sutton, and Francis Behrend and nephews, Roland McNally, Eugene Behrend, and Michael Duwe.
