Eldora C. Ploessl, 82, of Guttenberg, formerly of Holy Cross, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Dubuque after her courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation was Monday, April 17, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross and before services at the church hall.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Eldora was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Holy Cross, the daughter of Ervin and Clara (Pottebaum) Henkels. She married Francis J. Ploessl on Jan. 17, 1970, in Luxemburg. Together they farmed northwest of Holy Cross. 

Eldora enjoyed crocheting, quilting and a good card game. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and volunteered at Oakcrest Manor for many years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Charles (Heidi) Ploessl of Holy Cross and Christine (John) Selchert of Dubuque; three granddaughters, Lindsey Ploessl of Dubuque, Chloe and Grace Ploessl of Holy Cross; two step grandsons, Andrew (Christina) Selchert of Kansas City, Mo., Nickolas (Ashley Quick) Selchert of Dodgeville, Wis.; two step great-grandchildren: Carson and Averie Selchert of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Joe (Jeanette) Henkels of Dubuque and Erv (Mary) Henkels of Hiawatha; sister, Anna Marie (Joe) Wille of Garnavillo; in-laws, Andrew Jr. Ploessl of Dubuque, Jim Paisley of Balltown, Marvin (Linda) Brimeyer of Sherrill, Lorene Ploessl of Dubuque, Rosemary Ploessl of Holy Cross, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 26, 2002; an infant son; brothers, Raymond and Emmet Henkels; in-laws, Edwin (Margaret), LaVern (Rita), Alvin, James, John, and Donald Ploessl, Pearl (Jim) Klein, Mary Brimeyer, Joan Paisley and Mary Ploessl.

Eldora’s family would like to thank her oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Kukla, the nurses and staff at Medical Associates, Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab, and Hospice of Dubuque for all their kind and compassionate care.
