Seneca's Season Ends
Shullsburg ends Seneca’s season
By Ted Pennekamp
Top seeded Seneca’s season came to an end Thursday night at Reedsburg Area High School as second seeded Shullsburg won the Division 5 sectional semifinal 68-63 in boys basketball action.
Both teams started out a bit tight in the first half and missed several shots that, normally, they would have made a decent percentage of. The Miners came on towards the end of the half and built a 22-11 lead at one point. The Miners used their overall height advantage to grab several offensive rebounds and get second chances during the run.
A few moments later, Seneca had cut the lead to 7, but Shullsburg then hit a shot just before the halftime buzzer to take a 27-18 advantage at the break.
The second half was much more high-scoring as Seneca scored 45, while Shullsburg netted 41 to hold on for the victory. Shullsburg improved to 24-2 on the season and advanced to the sectional final. The Miners were the Six Rivers West conference champions at 12-0.
Regional champion Seneca, which was the top ranked team in Division 5 in the state for much of the season, finished with a 24-1 overall record. Seneca was also the Ridge and Valley Conference champion with a 14-0 record in conference play.
